What Are Dental Veneers?
In short, veneers are extremely thin ceramic shells that are bonded to the front of the teeth. In the process, they improve their appearance in every way you can imagine – from making your teeth whiter to making them more symmetrical. Of course, their customization and versatility are just two of the many reasons patients love them (more on that later).
The Process of Getting Veneers
The process of getting veneers starts with a consultation with one of our Brick dentists . Once they know a bit more about your dental history, oral health, and aesthetic goals, they can determine if veneers are the ideal cosmetic dental service for you. If that’s the case, then it will be time to solidify the details of your treatment plan before prepping your teeth for veneers, taking the necessary impressions, and sending them off to the dental lab so your final veneers can be made.
The process of crafting your final veneers usually takes a few weeks, so we will secure temporary veneers in place in the meantime. Then, at your last appointment, we will remove the temporary ones, secure your final veneers in place, and make any small last-minute changes that are necessary.
The Benefits of Veneers
We touched on one of the biggest benefits of veneers already: the size, shape, and shade of each one is customizable, allowing you to fix multiple dental imperfections at once. Of course, that’s not the only reason dentists and patients alike love this smile-enhancing service. The material looks and feels just like natural enamel, and they are also stain-resistant – you can trust your veneers to stay sparkling white for years after getting them!
Understanding the Cost of Veneers
Since there isn’t a cookie-cutter treatment plan, there isn’t a flat fee for veneers. In order to determine the cost of your smile transformation, we need to consider factors like how many you need to achieve the results you desire. Don’t worry – we’ll provide you with an estimate at your consultation, and we will also dedicate time to reviewing the financial solutions we offer that can make the price more affordable, like flexible financing.
Veneers FAQs
What Happens to the Teeth Under Veneers?
The veneers themselves don’t harm the teeth. Only a minimal amount of enamel is removed, and the bonding material used to attach the restoration is perfectly safe. Because the enamel is covered by the veneer, this procedure doesn’t increase your risk of developing tooth decay. However, it’s still crucial that you brush and floss regularly to prevent tooth decay from occurring underneath the veneers. You can still protect your teeth and veneers with the same practices that you use for teeth without veneers. Brush twice, floss, and rinse with mouthwash every day. Continue seeing your dentist for regular cleanings and checkups.
Can Veneers Be Used for Bite Corrections?
Veneers are unable to change the actual position of the teeth and jaw, so they aren’t effective at correcting misalignment. That being said, if you have a mild open bite, veneers can make the teeth appear longer and wider so they look to align correctly. Veneers can also be used to hide small gaps between the teeth. Veneers will only ever be recommended for bite issues that don’t cause significant oral health problems, yet they affect your appearance.
How Many Veneers Will I Need?
The goal of veneers is for all of your visible teeth to match, so you will receive the appropriate number of veneers to accomplish that goal. Some patients get a single veneer to cover one pesky tooth while others get as many as 12 for a more dramatic smile makeover. During your consultation, we will examine your smile and discuss your smile goals to determine what the right number is for you.
Is It Painful to Get Veneers?
Your mouth will be numbed with a local anesthetic at the beginning of your procedure, so you shouldn’t feel any discomfort during the procedure itself. However, you may experience some sensitivity when you get your temporary veneers. This is more likely if you are having multiple veneers placed. Some patients experience “bonding sensitivity” when their teeth come into contact with hot and cold temperatures for a little while. Fortunately, any discomfort is temporary and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers and saltwater rinses. If you have any concerns about your veneers or are experiencing prolonged discomfort, don’t hesitate to give us a call so we can help.
